Glossary of Ingredients

Allantoin:
A by-product of uric acid extracted from urea. Allantoin offers numerous benefits to our formulations, including a moisturizing effect, increasing the water content of the extracellular matrix. Its keratolytic action enhances the desquamation of upper layers of dead skin cells and growth of healthy tissue, increasing the smoothness of the skin and promoting cell proliferation and wound healing. Allantoin offers a soothing nature to skin care formulations as an anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory and as a general skin protectant. Present in Lara Beauty Revitalizing Daily Toner.

Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Leaf) Gel/Juice:
Derived from the aloe plant. Aloe facilitates the natural process of exfoliation and cell division and promotes the growth of healthy skin cells. It contains several chemicals that may decrease the inflammation and pain caused by a variety of skin conditions. Aloe accelerates the production of new skin cells, thereby lessening scarring, and may promote the formation of new blood vessels in damaged tissue. There are some studies that suggest that aloe may be slightly antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy (gel), Conditioning Cleanser (juice), and Revitalizing Daily Toner (juice).

Aluminum Silica:
Salt that has absorbent and abrasive properties.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter):
Extracted from the African shea nut. Shea butter is an effective moisturizer and emollient known for its softening and conditioning capabilities, as well as its ability to protect the skin against harmful UV rays. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy and Polishing Microderm Abrasion.

Camellia Sinensis (Japanese Green Tea) Leaf Extract:
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3, derived from Japanese green tea leaves. Japanese green tea contains polyphenols which are responsible for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It inhibits the breakdown of key structural elements within the extravascular matrix (collagen) and within blood vessels’ inner walls, making it a critical component in Lara Beauty formulations. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy, Conditioning Cleanser, and Revitalizing Daily Toner.

Cannibis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil:
Derived from the hemp plant. Through its extremely high essential fatty acid content (Omega 6, Omega 3, and Omega 9), hemp seed oil provides a superb barrier effect minimizing moisture loss from the skin. It is a non-greasy emollient and is well-absorbed through our skin’s lipid membrane to promote the lubricating action of the extracellular matrix and to offer increased skin smoothness and softness. Present in Lara Beauty Polishing Microderm Abrasion.

Capric/Capryllic Triglycerides:
A soothing emollient and thickening agent derived from coconut.

Cetyl Alcohol:
A non-irritating fatty alcohol used as an emollient, emulsifier, thickener, and carrying agent for other ingredients.

Chamomilla Matricaria Flower Extract (Chamomile):
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. Derived from the chamomile flower, this extract provides a rich source of azulene, bisabolol and chamazulene which account for chamomile’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is extremely soothing and beneficial for skin damaged by acne and excessive dryness. Blemishes are minimized with the use of chamomile and skin cell degradation is slowed, diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit Seed Extract):
Derived from the dried, ground seeds and pulp of the grapefruit. GSE is most known for its antioxidant properties. It offers both broad spectrum antiseptic and antibiotic effects, serving as a cleansing agent with superb preservative properties. Present in Lara Beauty Revitalizing Daily Toner .

Cocomide MIPA:
Derived from coconut. This is a mild cleanser that effectively removes surface oil and dirt without stripping or drying sensitive skin.

Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract:
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. This extract is well-known for its moisture-binding, soothing, tightening and anti-inflammatory properties and provides nourishment and a gentle softening of the skin. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy, Conditioning Cleanser, and Revitalizing Daily Toner.

Cyclomethicone:
A non-greasy moisturizer derived from silicone. Helps to deliver active ingredients through the epidermis while simultaneously serving as a smooth and silky emollient.

Decyl Glucoside:
A mild, plant-derived cleanser with foaming properties. Suitable for sensitive skin.

De-ionized Water:
Filtered water free of components that could interfere with a product’s stability and performance.

Diazolidinyl Urea:
A synthetic preservative that serves as an excellent water-binder and skin exfoliator.

Disodium EDTA:
A stabilizer used to prevent unwanted changes to the texture, odour, pH and consistency of a product.

Emulsifying Wax NF:
Used to bind together a product’s water-soluble and water-insoluble ingredients.

Ganoderma Lucidum (Mannentake Mushroom) Extract & Lentinus Edodes (Shiitake Mushroom) Extract:
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. Derived from Japanese mushrooms, these extracts minimize the harmful effects on the skin from oxidation and are rich in natural vitamins A, B, B2 and C, which promote smooth, firm, radiant and younger-looking skin. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy.

Glycerine:
An emulsifier and skin softener derived from vegetable oil. Helps to retain the skin’s moisture.

Glyceryl Monostearate:
An emollient and thickening agent.

Hyaluronic Acid:
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring humectant found in skin and connective tissue that is capable of retaining approximately 1000 times its weight in water to keep skin and collagen hydrated. While younger skin is generally smooth and elastic due to high concentrations of hyaluronic acid, the aging process causes a decrease in production of HA. With diminished cellular concentrations, the ability of HA to bind water drops. Consequently, the skin becomes drier, thinner, and less taut, promoting the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. With the added assistance of cyclomethicone, HA, when topically applied, compensates for lower levels of endogenous HA and effectively re-plumps the cells, greatly improving the skin’s appearance and smoothing out those unwanted lines and wrinkles. Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate:
A preservative that prevents the bacterial and microbial contamination of cosmetic products.

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-3:
The most critical component in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. Palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 has been clinically proven to regenerate the skin's upper layers by stimulating collagen production and, thickening the epidermis. It is a synthetic protein that is identical to a section of the Collagen I molecule and has been modified to become preferentially absorbed through skin cell walls. Collagen is the main constituent of the skin's extra-cellular matrix, making up approximately 25% of all protein found in the human body. In young skin, the collagen fibers are held in place by orderly bonds, to form a sort of net. As we age, there is a reduction in the amount of substances in the skin (including hyaluronic acid) that results in a loss of water retention and the collagen-fibre net collapses, contributing to a sagging and wrinkled appearance to the skin. In vitro (lab-based) studies demonstrated that palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 led to an increase in collagen IV synthesis by 100 to over 300% and also stimulated an increase in hyaluronic acid synthesis by 267%. In vivo (live studies), palmitoyl pentapeptide-3 was found to stimulate collagen synthesis by 30-117%. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy.

Persea Gratissima (Avocado Seed) Oil:
Avocado seed oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5, D, and E, amino acids (palmitic. stearic, oleic and linoleic), protein, lecithin, and essential fatty acids. As an antioxidant, it imparts a natural UV protection, thereby mitigating the effects of photoaging of the skin. It has excellent penetrating and skin softening actions, similar to lanolin but without the allergenicity. Avocado seed oil is also thought to stimulate collagen metabolism, which may help retard visible signs of aging. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy and Polishing Microderm Abrasion.

Polysorbate 20:
An emulsifier and stabilizer derived from fatty acids.

Quaternized Wheat Protein:
A key ingredient in Lara Beauty’s revolutionary Complex 3P3. Comprised of four different fractions (albumin, globulin, gliadin and glutenin), quaternized wheat protein naturally forms a film on the skin to effectively lock in moisture and facilitating skin repair and cell regeneration in response to exposure to dryness, environmental stresses or other irritations. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy and Revitalizing Toner.

Saccharomyces / Sea Salt Ferment (Biomin®):
This is a yeast-based dermophilic complex comprised of essential mineral such as magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and silicon. These minerals are specially bonded to a polypeptide agent using a unique bioengineering process and enhance the ability to bind moisture to the skin more effectively and better tolerated than regular sea salt. Present in Lara Beauty Revitalizing Daily Toner.

Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba Seed) Oil:
Derived from the jojoba plant. Technically an ester wax and not an oil, it is an excellent natural moisturizer with great affinity for skin cells. Jojoba seed oil also offers anti-bacterial, anti-aging, healing and preservative effects. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy.

Sodium Cocoamphoacetate:
Cleanser with exceptional foaming quality. Causes little to no eye irritation.

Stearic Acid:
Fatty acid used as an emollient (a softening and soothing agent) and as an agent to help keep other ingredients intact in a formulation.

Sucrose Cocoate:
Derived from sugar cane and coconut oil. A cleanser and moisturizer that is mild and non-drying. Excellent foaming action and powerful anti-irritant properties.

Tamarindus Indica Seed Extract (Tamarind):
Derived from the Tamarind seed. Improves skin elasticity, hydration and smoothness.

Tocopheryl (Vitamin E):
Naturally occurring fat-soluble antioxidant that protects the skin against sun damage. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and helps prevent the appearance of age spots. Offers greater benefit to the skin when applied topically versus taken orally. Present in Lara Beauty Anti-Aging Daily Therapy and Polishing Microderm Abrasion.

Vegetable Glycerine:
A humectant, emulsifier and skin softener, derived from vegetable oil.

Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed) Oil:
Plant derived. Rich in antioxidants including proanthocyanidins, which are 20 times more potent than vitamin C and 50 times more potent than vitamin E. Helps minimize sun damage. Present in Lara Beauty Polishing Microderm Abrasion.
